1971 Timex

Wrist Check

Picked up an old timex on ebay. It is definitely nothing fancy but I just liked it.

This watch has a 21 jewel manual movement. It’s my first wind up watch.

Overall, I think it’s in OK shape for a 53 year old watch that probably sold new for $10 dollars back then. Water resistance? It says it has it but I’m afraid to test it out. It’s made of “base metal” which sure does sound cheap if you ask me.

It seems to keep time OK, but it’s got a few quirks. I never wound up a watch before and I thought you had to pull out the crown, but it doesn’t seem to need that. The second hand only stops when the spring is fully unwound, not when the stem is pulled out. Apparently this feature isn’t present on a lot of timex watches.

The crystal isn’t too scratched up but the case has some pitting. You would be beat up too if you were 53 years old!

The watch itself doesn’t have much value outside of the couple bucks I paid for it, but I am happy with it.
