Thrift Store Citizen Eco Drive

This is the type of watch a dad buys himself on a whim while waiting for wife at the mall.

The movement is solar powered quartz, with a day of the month window. The battery was dead on arrival. It came to life after a few seconds in a sunny window which is a very handy feature of solar powered watches.

The watch set me back about $30 shipped. I found an MSRP from Citizen for this model and they were sold beginning around 2013 for $380-$450 depending on the options, one had crystals on the face which I think was a little bit nicer. I don’t think I’d have paid $450 for it, but I think it’s probably worth $100 or $150 on ebay.

This watch is pretty basic and isn’t collectable or extremely interesting but I like it and think it will last a long time.

As far as complaints, I don’t have many. There is no way to know what the current charge of the watch is. Most of these watches, once fully charged can last for months in the dark. I wish it had some indication of charge but its OK.

There is also no way to easily set the date. You have to run the hands all the way around and around and around to advance the date forward. As long as the watch stays charged this shouldn’t be too much of a chore, I’ll just need to adjust it every time a month has less than 31 days.
