Wrist Check: $7 SKMEI 2091

I ordered this little gem of a watch off Temu or Aliexpress for $7. It’s a knockoff of a knockoff. Swiss Watchmaker Audemars Piguet makes a watch called the Royal Oak. Casio copied the case design for their G-Shock line, which fans call a Casioak. SKMEI, a chinese maker of cheap watches cloned the Casio.

Overall this watch is about what you’d expect to get out of a happy meal, I suppose slightly better. It is water resistant, at least it had a gasket around the case back, and it has a steady eddy quartz movement tucked inside. My guess is it will gain or lose up to 1 second per day.

Right away I noticed the band is nice and soft and the watch is very light weight. Initially the day indicator was stuck on Friday. After pulling the movement from the case and pushing the hands around I think I’ve got it fixed.

All in all, this is a cheap fashion watch that is really not all that fashionable, but it is about as good as most Casio watches I’ve worn and considerably cheaper.

A dumbwatch like this is great for getting away from the constant notifications of a smartwatch, and if you’re looking to test it out then I highly recommend a crappy plastic watch like the SKMEI 2091.
