The current state of technology unsettles me, and what’s nuts is you can be pretty much invisible to the system if you just stop using it. Our phones are highly sophisticated sensor arrays that are disguised as harmless communication tools but are actually hoovering up massive amounts of data, probably for the government but it’s definitely being used to train algorithms. These server farm sized super computers aren’t being built to learn about human behavior in general. They are learning about us on an intimate and individual level, and all they do all day is wait for users to deploy what they know about each and everyone of us into making a decision about something.
I just don’t like it, and there is so much I hate about using phones that I’m determined to find a way to have my cake and eat it too.
I wanted to avoid advertisers because I didn’t like being targeted and prompted to open my wallet, but as the system has grown and started to become more intelligent, I think it’s far more dangerous than that. AI powered algorithms are evolving into brain washing and propaganda machines. I just want to opt out, and I’m starting by limiting data collection by totally removing social media apps from my phone, limiting permissions, and not allowing a smart phone totag along with me when I’m out and about.
