The State of the Internet

Much of the aggregate information that humankind has sits behind closed off walls. The only way to access the information is to create an account and login. I don’t want a twitter, pinterest, yelp, reddit, or facebook account, yet these platforms have interwoven themselves into the fabric of modern life. You cannot get the full use of apple maps, or google search without accounts to one or all of these services. It’s absolutely bananas that platforms can restrict access to public data this way. Twitter is used by politicians, police departments, public health agencies and other public officials as a means of communicating with the public.

What can be done to fix it? The answer is – nothing, but none of us should be participating in this rodeo. Stop posting on these platforms. They’re trash. Thanks for clicking on this rant.
